Abstract

Purpose:To verify the effect of acupressure on the spots of Zoksamli(ST-36) and Sagwan(Li-4, Liv-3) with Si-acupuncture on nausea and vomiting in patients with stomach cancer, who are undergoing chemotherapy.

Method:This study was performed with the nonequivalent control group nonsynchronized design. The subjects were fifty postoperative stomach cancer patients(the 25 patients belong to experimental group and the remaining25 patients belong to control group) who are undergoing chemotherapy. The experimental group underwent routine chemotherapy nursing care as well as extra acupuncture for the spots of Zoksamli and Sagwan at the same time and the control group underwent routine chemotherapy nursing care. The data were analyzed by using ¥ö©÷-test and t-test for the determination of the homogeneity and testing the hypothesis.

Result:The hypothesis ¡¯The symptoms of nausea and vomiting in the stomach cancer chemotherapy patients of experimental group who undergo Zoksamli and Sagwan acupressures will be relieved much more than in those of control group who undergo only routine chemotherapy nursing care.¡¯ is accepted(t=2.204, p=0.032).

Conclusion:On the basis of this finding, it is concluded that the acupressure therapy should be incorporated into the routine nursing care for the cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy only.
